About the Role We currently have an opportunity for an Analyst / Senior Market Analyst within the Integrated Energy Portfolio Planning team. Market analysts are responsible for the provision of high-quality analysis, the use and development of sophisticated models and providing research and reporting services to the Integrated Energy functions. This role will deliver commercial insights and make recommendations that drive the strategic direction and decision making process, to effectively manage the Trading, Origination and Physical Markets functions, and in the development and implementation of market-leading value-creating strategies. The role also provides assessments of the various fuel portfolios at all times, including long/short positions, banks, Take or Pay, and threat of forfeitures. Market analysts will have relationships with key stakeholders such as finance, operations, and risk, to deliver information and drive processes such as budgeting and market modelling. A market analyst operating at a senior level is expected to have a good appreciation of energy market dynamics, including gas and electricity markets and will assist in the mentoring and development of less experienced team members. What you’ll be doing: Lead the preparation of reporting insights through presenting results in a meaningful way to affect the planning, pricing and management of the wholesale portfolio by using existing sophisticated/complex models/database and/or developing new complex models/database. Lead the delivery within cross-functional teams on ad-hoc projects to create value by optimising the fuel and asset portfolio. Deliver and drive high-quality end-to-end analysis to support the decision making process(es) that allows for effective management of the wholesale portfolio. Assess and report on the various fuel positions to identify risks and opportunities associated with new business opportunities, changes in the market or shifts in the portfolio. Provide key market and portfolio insights in the evaluation of new business opportunities, identifying the financial as well as physical risk exposures inherent in potential transactions. Build models that can be used to enable trading and optimisation of various fuel sources and positions. Establish a long term view on how the team should approach planning and analysis and ensure that the common tools across the group are established. Ensure data, analysis and reports are collated, published and archived, supporting business continuity. Communicate effectively across groups of different skill level and expertise to efficiently deliver the key messages for portfolio optimization. About You What you’ll bring to the table: Energy market knowledge, particularly gas and electricity supply and demand dynamics, the regulatory landscape and pricing trends. Numerical skills - as measured by typical aptitude tests. Above 75th percentile. Computer/IT skills - high level of competence with Excel, and highly developed automation skills and ability to interact with technical information technical resources at a detailed level. Some exposure to Python and/or SQL is advantageous. Creativity and intellectual curiosity – the ability to see linkages between apparently unrelated matters and to develop and deploy new or unusual or creative approaches to problem solving. A desire for continual learning and development. Presentation skills - this role may be required to communicate in larger group forums; visual communication of complex concepts is required (graphics, charts, effective Powerpoint skills). Strong analytical skills with experience of trading systems and portfolio valuation techniques. Proven ability to understand complex problems and design innovative solutions.
